Overview

Nicholas Brooklyn is a Black-owned wellness apothecary that has operated in Brooklyn since 1974, now run by the founder’s daughter. The catalogue runs to hundreds of products across oils, botanicals, and body care, and the previous site could not keep up. It needed a storefront that could carry a 50-year-old brand’s history and still handle a catalogue that size without a punishing build.

The Challenge

Hundreds of Shopify products, most with multiple variants and sizes, is a lot to pre-build as static pages, and the catalogue changes often. The site also had to load fast for shoppers on phones, hold up the story of a family business now in its second generation, and move off a fragile hosting setup with no version control onto something reproducible.

The Solution

Astro with a static core for the marketing and editorial pages, and server-rendered product and collection pages running live on Cloudflare Workers through the Shopify Storefront API, so the 1,200+ product pages are generated on demand instead of at build time. The Shopify Admin API handles catalogue writes. GSAP and Lenis give the editorial pages restrained motion. The whole site deploys from GitHub through a gated CI pipeline.

Key Results

  • 1,200+ Server-Rendered Product Pages
  • Reproducible Git-Based Deploys
  • Catalogue-Scale Without Build Bloat
